Chronic Conditions Lingering After TBI

Research has identified some areas of physical health which create chronic problems for people with brain injuries.
Self reported problems include:
-metabolic and endocrine symptoms including changes in appetite and weight;
-neurologic symptoms including seizures and headache;
-incontinence (of both bowel and bladder);
-chronic pain;
-and sleep disturbances.
However, other long-term difficulties are clearly observed, including:
-worsening of complications like dystonia, spasticity and contractures;
-swallowing problem and resultant aspiration;
-dizziness;
-balance and righting reactions;
-neglect due to sensory changes; and pressure sores (BIAA, 2019)
